This is a place where I can post family updates and ramble about things as I try to find my way since the recent death of my daughter. Life has completely changed for my sons, my husband and myself. Our faith has been a great source of comfort and we'll continue to rely on it as we press forward.

A Mom's gotta brag....
My son, Austin, took a test in January for the GATE (gifted and talented educational program) and we got the letter today saying that he qualifies! I talked to him about being involved in it and he said he wants to! He won't start until the fall (August) but he's quite proud of himself. I can't believe he will be in 6th grade already! Fortunately our elementary school now offers 6th grade and he will be staying there one more year.
This picture is of Austin and our cat, Charlie.

Congrats to you and your son!!! How exciting!!! My husband was in a program like that as a kid and now phd in chemistry! You must be bursting with pride!
Hi Nancy, I am new to your blog and I hopped over from immomsdaughter's blog, which you had earlier left a comment. I want to convey my congratulations to you and Austin, and would like your permission to link your blog in mine. I'm a new mommy to a 4-mth-old little boy, and it seems that I need a lot of tips from you experienced moms out there to handle this little crankster! Thanks!! :-)
Chelle, thanks for the comments. I would be proud if Austin turns out to be a geeky phd chemist. hehe... My father-in-law is a retired biochemistry teacher (he taught at a University) so maybe my son inherited a little bit of that? ;-) Geekiness rules!
Hi Binky&Blogging, Welcome! I just went and checked out your blog and wow, your little guy is gorgeous! I also read that you had postpartum depression. Those are tough times... but I'm glad to hear that you are doing better! It is interesting to me to read about the confinement traditions that you spoke about.
Anyway, I'd be honored if you want to link my blog to yours. I'll do the same, if you don't mind.
Thanks for stopping by and if I can help in any way, just let me know.
Oh, now, that is just tooo cool!! Congrats to Austin!! What will the program include? Neat!!
Hi Ruth, I'm not quite sure what will be involved. My oldest son, Justen, was in the GATE program for one year and he hated it. He thought of it as more homework and had a hard time thinking "outside the box"... come to find out - years later- Justen has Aspergers (as you know it's under the autism spectrum) and he needed more structure (and still has a lot of issues in that area).
Brandon wouldn't even test for GATE because his older brother gave him such a bad impression of it. Fortunately Austin hasn't listened to his older brothers and is excited to go and experience it for himself. :-)
Well Done Austin !!
Wahoo! GO Austin - what an amazing accomplishment.
Oh, and Nancy, I haven't forgotten that you tagged me on the songs - I've just been busy, so I'll try to get my homework done tonight or tomorrow. :)
Nancy, Kudos to Austin! You must be bursting at the seams with pride. Can I send my kids to your house? They need some smarts!
Well first of all, both Austin and Charlie are darling!!! And I'd be bragging, too girlfriend. THAT is wonderful. He should be proud of himself!!!!! =)
I did it! I did it! I finally chose my songs... you might be sorry you asked me too though, heh :)
Nacny, you must be bursting with pride! I tested into an English program a bit like that and it was awesome. Tho, unlike Chelle's husband, I did not become a PHD - LOL! But I like to think of myself as a fairly well adjusted adult with minimal baggage...
Congratulations! It really is a huge accomplishment!
Smarty pants :)
